There’s still an advantage to painting certain rooms in cool tones while painting others in warm tones. Warm, lively and bright colours tend to stimulate us, and that stimulation leads to activity. That’s why reds and yellows are so popular in kitchens and dining rooms; they stimulate our appetites and lively conversation. That doesn’t mean there’s no room for your creative hand, though; you could choose a vibrant purple, if that’s your style, or use yellow trim, or choose between maroons and scarlets and all kinds of other reds. You can even paint your kitchen in a colour that reminds you of your grandparents kitchen, or of a favorite restaurant; your imagination is the limit.
Cool tones are well suited to places where you want to relax, but the diversity of cool tones means you can use all kinds of different colours in all kinds of different rooms. I love lavenders, so my bathroom is lavender, but you might love hunter green and opt for that instead. These colours are also great for bedrooms, if you’re the type of person who wants to relax in your bedroom. You might be someone who wants a stimulating colour in your bedroom instead, because you find it easy to fall asleep but hard to get up in the morning; if that’s you, don’t worry about what standards say, and paint your heart!
